Joe
BECK
Joe Beck has been a feature on the New York jazz landscape for more
than 30 years. As a young player, he was part of the vital club scene
playing with some of the finest musicians in jazz. The move into the
studio industry was a natural and lead to a huge number of recordings
with such players as Gene Ammons, Paul Desmond, Blue Mitchell, Gil
Evans, and countless others.
In 1968 Joe became the first guitar player to record with Miles Davis,
doing the sessions which were the first steps towards Miles’ trend setting “electric
years”. In the ensuing years, Joe recorded with an incredible roster of
artists; from Paul Simon to James Brown, Frank Sinatra to Peggy Lee, Joe Farrell
to Gato Beriberi, Quincy Jones to Duke Ellington.
After over 1000 recordings, Joe returned to full time live playing
and has since been touring world wide with his trio and quartet, as
well as a very
successful
duo with flutist Ali Ryerson showcasing Joe’s invention, the Alto guitar.
