STATEMENT This recent series of
paintings continues my ongoing involvement with employing
the strictures of Formalism as foils for disruption --
turning its conventions on itself. The 'freeze-dried'
gestures utilized are mere representations, codified so as
to further remove them from normative readings of
expression, converting them to objectified 'motifs'. This
objectification transforms both the functions and the
implications of these elements, presenting a finished
product that must be approached without pre-conceived
notions. The palette employed is both anti-naturalistic and
non-psychological, not replacing nature with a subjective,
emotional construct, but using objectified color as merely
another disruptive element of composition. N.
