Drummer
Akira Tana and bassist Rufus Reid (both from the
U.S.) team here with Hong Kong-based pianist Ted
Lo on improvisations based largely on Chinese and
Japanese folk and pop songs. The concept could
easily have ended up sounding gimmicky, but the
trio kneads in the Asian influences so subtly that
a casual listener probably won't notice them. And
any listener will be knocked
out by the sparkling solos and telepathic ensemble
work.
