Remember about fifteen years ago, when bassist Charlie Haden put together an album called Haunted Heart to explore the jazz/film music nexus of the 1950s? It was a wonderful record, and I found myself being reminded of it frequently and happily as I listened to this one, which seeks to evoke the mood of classic noir films by means of both original compositions and new performances of music associated with those films (both old and new). Nice concept, great album.
