Fallen Angel
Nashville City Paper

Guitarist Bob Sneider takes center stage on two fine projects, one a group date and the other a duo work. Fallen Angel features the Bob Sneider & Joe Locke Film Noir Project, while Escapade (both Sonsof Sound) matches Sneider with pianist Paul Hoffman, who’s also a member of the Film Noir Project.

Fallen Angel has frequently beautiful renditions of film themes from the frontline of Sneider, vibist Locke, bassist Phil Flanigan, drummer Mike Melito and Hoffman, aided at various times by trumpeter John Sneider and tenor saxophonist Grant Stewart. Locke’s vibe solos are a set highlight, and the contrast with Sneider’s guitar and Hofmann’s piano is particularly effective on such numbers as “Mulholland Falls,” “Body Heat” and “Farewell to Mara.” Both Stewart and trumpeter Sneider are careful not to overplay or disrupt the mood during their solos, while Hofmann is equally appealing as both soloist and group contributor.
